STAMP DOWN INFLATION!

Get your skates on. This offer last until Sunday 3 April and no later. In fact it is safest to take action as soon as you have read to the end.

You can buy something today that will be worth at least 12% more by Monday 4 April. Guaranteed. It is the best return in town.

Royal Mail is putting up the price of posting a letter by more than 10% from 4 April. But the stamps marked 1st and 2nd class which you buy today at the old prices will be usable at the new prices forever.

1st class

Large letter 0-100g

So a book of 100 1st class stamps you will cost you £5 less if you buy it before 4 April. And you can save £4 on a book of 100 2nd class. Savings are even more on the higher value stamps that you need on any UK letter that is more than 5mm thick or 165mm wide.

Heavier and international letters cost more. But these 1st and 2nd class stamps can be used at their nominal value which rises on Monday by about 12%. So a stamp you bought for 32p on Friday will be worth 36p on Monday.

For example from 4 April it will cost you £2.16 to post a 500g packet. But you can make that up using six 2nd class stamps nominally 36p each but which will have cost you just £1.92 if you buy them this week.

If you buy a few 1p, 2p and 5p stamps as well you can make up any new value. A 20g airmail letter to America or Australia will cost you 76p from 4 April. But you can pay with a large 1st class stamp – bought now for 66p but worth 75p from 4 April – with another 1p stamp stuck with it. That saves you 9p.

With inflation else rising strongly the last thing we need is stamps to go up by 12% or more. So go out this week and buy as many stamps as you think you will need over the next year. Some shops – but not Post Offices – even give a small discount on them.

But don’t forget, by Monday 4 April you will have to pay the full new price.
