Household Words 3 January 1856. The first appearance of The Dead Secret. It was to run until 13 June.

The pale blue cover of the first French edition of Le Secret. Translated by Émile Durand Forgues and published by Hachette in 1858, it was the first book by Wilkie Collins to be published in French.

Title page of the 1861 one volume edition. Pages dated 1861 and 1862 are known.

Cover of the American edition published by Harper & Brothers in 1874 as part of a uniform edition of Wilkie's works. Probably the first fully illustrated edition with six engravings.
