'Visiting the Puppy' a vignette half title page taken from
one of his "designs for an intended picture" and which should be
in volume I but is sometimes found in vol.II. "Both" Wilkie
wrote "speak for themselves as examples of the most popular branches
of his Art". Engraved by John James Hinchcliffe (1805-1875). |

'The Shrimper's Return' - a vignette title page taken from
"one of his sketches from nature" and intended for the second
volume, though sometimes bound with the first. Wilkie wrote that this and
the other vignette had "been preserved with remarkable fidelity and
success by the graver of Mr. Hinchcliffe." |
