1862 - age 38
A very strange likeness used as the frontispiece to No Name published by Gardner A. Fuller & Co. in Boston in early 1863, before the Harper edition. The book also contains a transcript of a letter, said to be from Wilkie, praising the volumes and enclosing "a late photograph". However, the letter is now thought to be a fake and this engraving is so odd it seems unlikely it was taken from a photograph. The signature is also a clumsy forgery. See The Public Life of Wilkie Collins 2005 I 280-281.
