Photograph taken by Cundall, Downes & Co. of 168 New Bond Street. It was tipped in to the first one volume edition of The Woman in White published by Sampson Low, Son, & Co. London 1861. So many copies were sold that Wilkie had to sit several times for the portraits. You can see known variants below.
