Two extracts from Rambles were published in Harper's New Monthly Magazine in April 1851. 

'The Pilchard Fishery on the Coast of Cornwall' pp630-633 was an edited version extract of chapter VIII 'The Pilchard Fishery' and 'Visit to a Copper Mine' pp652-656 was an edited version of chapter XI 'Botallack Mine'. Both were credited to Wilkie in a footnote. Harper had published his previous book Antonina in the US.
