The second edition of Rambles was published a year after the first,
on 9 January 1852. Some of the misprints were corrected and it was no longer dedicated to the Duke of
Northumberland. There was a new
'advertisement' - actually a preface - which explained why Wilkie stood by
his title even though
"Since this work first appeared, the all-conquering Railway has invaded Cornwall; and the title of my book has become a misnomer already...They may make a Railway in Cornwall; but they can't make an alteration in MY TITLE" |
