In November 1874 Andrew Chatto bought up Collins's available copyrights and started issuing his own uniform set of past titles. This cover shows an early design - also found in blue - which eventually became the uniform 'Piccadilly' novels format used for many popular authors. For some he commissioned illustrations and this edition had seven by Alfred Concanen (1835-1886). Concanen, best known for illustrating the covers of sheet music, also illustrated the Chatto edition of The Queen of Hearts
