1858 to Harriet Collins a

Harley Place

Thursday evening

My dear Mother,

I have

looked in on my

way to the Procters

to ask you to

order dinner tomorrow

here
, for me, and

of course for Charley

too. My plans

are changed – and

unless Charley settles

1858 to Harriet Collins b

to go out somewhere

I will dine at here

tomorrow.

Yours afftly

W.C

If it is inconvenient

to get dinner let

me know through

Charley, and I can

dine at the Club.

NOTES

Although undated the letter must have been written during the 26 months that Wilkie's mother Harriet lived at Harley Place

The Procters were Brian Waller Procter, his wife Anne Benson Procter and their daughter the poet Adelaide Anne Procter.

Charley is Wilkie's brother Charles Allston Collins (1828-1873) the pre-Raphaelite painter.

The Club is almost certainly the Garrick Club which Wilkie joined on 3 June 1854.
