Dear Listener,

Last week we sent the newsletter out earlier and that change was widely welcomed by our readers. So here it is again in the afternoon.

We’re leading this week on the extraordinary statement by the Financial Services Authority boss Hector Sants, that the era of easy and cheap credit is over. Right on cue Britain’s biggest building society Nationwide put up the cost of borrowing for people without a 25% deposit. Hear what Hector Sants said and I will be asking the Nationwide boss why he made this dramatic change.

We explore the problems faced by returning soldiers who find it very difficult to get a mortgage. Why does it happen and what can they do?

As April approaches the ISA season hots up. New offers come out almost daily. We look at the best deals for your cash. And at Conservative plans for a new Green ISA or GISA – and yes it is pronounced “geezer”.

And we’ll be talking to Ofcom – the telephone, TV, and broadband regulator – which stepped in this week to warn firms about unfair charges, such as a surcharge for those who pay their cable or telephone bill by cheque or cash. Ofcom tells us what it plans and why.

We may not squeeze all that in – and other things may happen. So find out what we run and what we don’t by listening to Money Box on Saturday at noon, or the repeat on Sunday at nine pm. Or you can listen when and where it suits you buy downloading the podcast to play on your MP3 player. Or you can listen online. Find both through our page www.bbc.co.uk/moneybox .

Best wishes,

Paul Lewis
