Dear listener,

I hope they get indigestion. Those gremlins ate the newsletter again last week. And for all I know will soon be chomping on this one. We are trying to stop this happening. But it is proving difficult to purge the system of the grinning green folk. No, I don't understand why either. Meanwhile, I hope you get this.

In this last Money Box before the programme takes a brief summer break (don't worry we won't leave you alone – see last para now if you're anxious) should developers insure the homes they build against flooding? That's the radical idea of one MP who says it would concentrate their minds on making sure they did not build on flood plains or, if they did, that the homes they built would be more flood-proof as they are in other parts of Europe.

The government wants to encourage home buyers to take out long-term mortgages of 20 to 25 years. But industry insiders tell us they're fairly cool on the idea.

Tesco is entering the property market. It says it is not an estate agent but admits there is a bit of a "grey area" about internet home sites – especially when they give customers a board for their home saying "Tesco".

And more free shares for Standard Life customers – at least those who got the windfall last year and still have their shares. Details on the programme of who gets what and when.

Now. On to the summer. For the next five weeks the Money Box slot on Saturday will be replaced by our sister programme Inside Money. Presenter Lesley Curwen will be taking five listeners round to investigate aspects of personal finance. Next Saturday our listener Adam Potter looks at inflation and interviews... wait for it... the governor of the Bank of England! In future weeks listeners will be investigating insurance, mortgages and carbon offsetting. Lesley will be sending you her own newsletter each week... gremlins willing. You can read more about Inside Money on its website bbc.co.uk/insidemoney

Best wishes,

Paul Lewis

PS: Don't forget the live preview of Money Box on Saturday on BBC1 Breakfast between 8.45 and 9. Over the summer Lesley will be popping up there to trail ahead to Inside Money.

PPS: Money Box back 1 September.
