Dear listener,

In Money Box this week:

We went to court this week to see how barrister Tom Brennan got on in his challenge to the banks over penalty charges on his overdrawn account. The court was packed, the files were massive, the case... was adjourned. But I did get Tom's reaction and an explanation of why some documents were filed so late.

People who borrow money get new rights this month. New rights to challenge the terms of the loan – including the rate of interest. New rights to make complaints about credit reference agencies. New rights to take complaints to the Financial Ombudsman. And the ombudsman himself talks to us about what the new Consumer Credit Act means.

The energy regulator promised tough action if gas suppliers didn't cut the cost of our fuel bills. So far only two out of six suppliers have cut their prices. We examine what's gone wrong.

Last week I promised you the controversial views of a car finance expert on the best way to buy that new Spring car. His interview got squeezed out in the tight chicane of our 24 minute slot. But this week Graham Hill – the car finance expert not the Formula One driver – is back.

And a warning if you've got money in an offshore account. You have just two months to tell the Revenue about it – or else.

More on all those stories on Money Box – live on Saturday at noon, repeated Sunday at 9pm and any time (after midday) on the web.

Best wishes,

Paul Lewis
