Kew Bridge development

Site history - dig

Early in 2007 Wessex Archaeology was commissioned to examine the site as part of the preparatory work for the planning application to build on it. The excavations were carried out in February. A detailed report on the findings has not yet been published but the company produced a summary in a blog on 5 March 2007. Click on an image to see an enlargement.

The quantity of bottles and bottle tops with the crest of the Royal Brewery excavated from the site are probably from the two pubs on the site owned by the brewery rather than the malthouse as Wessex surmises. The malthouse was in fact owned by Jupp & Sons.

I am grateful to Debbie Radcliffe who has done brilliant and detailed research into the history of the site and who has kindly given me access to her work.
